Construction Update 11/12/2018

Heated Temporary Restrooms
Heated Temporary Restrooms

The heated restroom trailer outside the south exits from Daniels basement is now in operation. This clean, warm trailer is for UW-Madison students, staff, and faculty, to avoid crowding in the restrooms inside Daniels. It is not for use by construction personnel.

As the photos below show, our building is surrounded by construction zones on the east, north, and west. On the Mills Street side, excavations to allow equipment to be brought into the sub-basement began last week and will continue this week. Soon Mills Street will be completely closed between University Ave. and Johnson St. for a period of a couple weeks. After that only two lanes will be open. Charter Street has been closed for some time and will remain completely closed for at least three more weeks. Charter Street is expected to reopen fully in mid-January.

As a result of street and sidewalk closures caused by the construction, the crosswalks on the west sides of the intersections of University Ave. with Charter Street and Mills Street have been closed (see map below). The Charter St. crosswalk is closed through December. The Mills St. closure extends through 2021. Please do not cross University Avenue in crosswalks that are closed and warn students to walk only in open sidewalks and crosswalks. Walking in the street with no sidewalk is extremely dangerous.
