Construction Update 07/13/2020

A Walk Around the Chemistry Block. From almost every angle the exterior appearance of the chemistry-building complex has been altered by the construction project. From the south, Daniels has been extended upward by the huge ventilation duct that runs around the periphery of the roof. On the east side there are changes from sub-basement to rooftop, including new area wells at ground level and the ventilation duct on the roof. On the east side of the new tower there is a construction stairway and the skip hoist that moves building materials from delivery at street level up to whichever floor needs them. At the northeast corner, the “flash cube”, a prominent architectural feature of the new tower, is now partially enclosed. Lots of glazing has been installed on the north side both in the atrium area and the learning studio. Finally, from the west, windows for study areas and new office spaces, as well as the steel structure on the rooftop, are easily visible from Charter Street.

Chemistry Learning Center. Installation of furniture is now complete, and the new facilities of the Chemistry Learning Center are now ready for occupation. Unfortunately, it will be some time before the CLC staff will be able to move in, but the new CLC sure looks nice!

Fire Protection. Fire-protection installation on the Mathews fourth floor is underway. Work on the first floor begins the week of July 27. In Shain tower, installation of new electrical components for the existing sprinkler system will take place on the second floor this week.

This information is up to date as of Monday morning. Email bulletins will be provided as needed.
